Open Finance ANZ
Building the open finance community across Australia and New Zealand.
Overview
Open Finance ANZ is an industry community for the people building open banking and open finance across Australia and New Zealand.
I co-founded it in 2021. It exists to connect practitioners on both sides of the Tasman, including data holders, accredited recipients, regulators, startups and the banks, and to publish the shared reference material a young sector needs before it can talk about itself coherently.
The opportunity
Australia’s Consumer Data Right had gone live in banking, and a first generation of accredited businesses was forming around it. New Zealand was watching closely and working out its own approach. Both markets were small enough that most of the practitioners knew of each other, and fragmented enough that nobody had a map of who was doing what.
There was no neutral forum spanning the two markets, and no published view of either ecosystem. Regulators were consulting on rules the sector had no organised way to answer.
